Hurricane Rita Relief

The Jefferson Lions Club would like to thank the people of Jefferson and Marion County for donations and sponsorship during our fund-raising activities throughout the year. Every cent raised by the Lions Club is used for charitable purposes - eyeglasses for needy JISD schoolkids, scholarships for Jefferson students, local youth programs, and more.

Because of your generosity, the Jefferson Lions Club was able to act quickly when a recent emergency situation arose in our community. As Hurricane Rita approached the Texas coast, the Galveston area was evacuated, and our local Pine Hill Nursing home took in approximately fifty nursing home residents from that area. Along with those evacuees came staff and family members, which left Pine Hill in a food crisis. While they could apply for, and hopefully eventually receive, help from FEMA or the Red Cross, they simply had no way to feed the evacuees in the short term.

The Lions Club immediately allocated funds to assist in this time of urgent need. Club members purchased groceries at our local Brookshire's - about seven grocery baskets full - and delivered the food to the nursing home in time for dinner. Your support makes things like this possible, and we sincerely appreciate it.
